Data sources, methodology and limitations

This is an educational fishing-planning site, not a meteorological authority or certified navigation-table provider. We distinguish source data, model calculations and editorial guidance.

Reference-station tide estimates

This version has 143 places in 22 countries. 91 places use 36 reference-station models; 52 have no tide model. Some share a station with time and height adjustments. Kuwait's twenty places, for example, use the Salmiya reference. These are not twenty independent observing stations.

The harmonic engine uses stored coefficients rather than live gauge readings. Original code comments describe fitting from a month of extremes and limited Kuwait validation. The site has no independent published validation report for every station or a universal error bound, so we do not claim a fixed ±30-minute accuracy. Model height is not safe navigational depth; the local datum needs independent verification and weather can affect real levels.

The reference identifier appears beside the daily table. Water-level predictions are not measured current speed, and missing model coverage does not imply no tide.

The suitability index

This experimental score out of 100 is not a catch probability or a safety rating. Base components are 45% tide suitability for the method, 13% moon illumination, 20% broad seasonal guidance and 22% weather quality, followed by solunar, traditional-calendar and weather adjustments. These program weights have not been calibrated against a published local catch record.

Window ranking combines light, moon and model water-level change with available hourly weather. One to three hours after a tide turn is a trial heuristic, not a universal feeding rule. Scores are labelled provisional when weather is unavailable.

Weather and updates

MET Norway forecasts are requested in your browser for the chosen place under CC BY 4.0. We aggregate available daily hours, convert units, classify symbols and avoid overlapping rainfall periods. The summary is processed forecast data, not a local live observation. Forecasts are requested when opening a location; availability is not guaranteed.

The tool has incomplete wave and marine-warning coverage and does not measure dust. Missing information is not evidence of good conditions. A manual entry overrides the forecast for that place and date until cleared. For Kuwait use the Kuwait Meteorological Center; elsewhere use the local official authority.

Calendars and astronomy

Astronomical calculations derive from SunCalc algorithms with attribution in the code. The browser's Umm al-Qura calendar may differ from local month announcements. The traditional Hijri Haml/Fasad table is a north-Gulf convention, independent of the model index and not automatically applicable everywhere.

Daylight-saving locations use browser IANA time zones, with known Morocco 2026 changes pinned for older timezone data. Older browsers and future government changes require further updates; all future dates are not guaranteed.

Articles, seasons and illustrations

We provide explanatory guides and educational examples without claiming personal field trips or expert reviews that did not take place. Season categories are broad guidance; individual cells have not all been checked against published local catch records. Common names vary, and illustrations cannot establish species or a season.

AI-generated article images are labelled as illustrative, not evidence of a trip or place. Fish cards use real photographs, with scientific names and photo credits; some groups are represented by a named species. Other pages may use external maps or images with their source indicated; consult that source before reuse.

Corrections

Editorial update dates are not field-observation dates. Send a correction with the page, place, date and a verifiable source. Avoid restricted locations or unnecessary personal information. Current fishing restrictions and permits must be checked with the official authority.
